Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with dementia or in a similar geriatric care setting. Basic understanding of dementia care principles, including techniques for managing challenging behaviors. Strong clinical skills and the ability to perform a range of nursing tasks with precision and care. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and professionalism in all interactions with residents and their families.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification or additional training in dementia care (e.g., Certified Dementia Care Specialist). Certification or training in crisis management techniques, such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, such as Connect Care. Knowledge of Alberta’s regulations and best practices for dementia care. Training in non-pharmacological interventions and behavior management techniques.
