Your Opportunity:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Emergency Mental Health department (EMH), you will provide holistic assessments within a recovery model framework for patients presenting in psychiatric or psychosocial crisis. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team in the Emergency Department to assess the patient, determine the level of illness and risk to self or others, and make recommendations to Emergency Physicians and Psychiatrists regarding the plan of care for the patient. As an EMH LPN, you will collaborate with stakeholders and organize referrals to community services based on client need. multidisciplinary team. The LPN participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implements prescribed treatments, administers medications, monitors and evaluates treatments, and documents patient care and treatment response. The LPN facilitates patient and family education and discharge planning. Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

2 years of Addictions and/or Mental Health experience within the last 3 years. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and/or Mental Health site or emergency department may be considered. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Experience with mental status assessments. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, VAST, Trauma Informed Care, Domestic Violence screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Nursing experience in an urgent care setting or emergency is preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Edmonton Zone preferred.
