Your Opportunity:

The Health Care Aide position will be based out of the Enhanced Care Unit., Type A Continuing Care Home; however, it may involve working on all units at Mackenzie Place when required. Residents may exhibit challenging, unpredictable responsive behaviors, which require enhanced staffing expertise to provide care and oversight. Reporting to the Care Manager, you will work under the supervision of a regulated health professional while delivering healthcare services. You will be responsible for providing care within the boundaries of your competency and education and follow care plans using your knowledge, skills and abilities to provide safe and competent care. While providing care to residents in the Enhanced Care Unit, you must be astute in their level of observation, identify and report subtle changes in resident behaviours and implement strategies to mitigate potential escalation of responsive behaviours. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be willing and able to float to all 4 areas as staffing needs require, including on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with residents with unpredictable moderate to severe responsive behaviours. Experience in Seniors' Health is an asset. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI). Foot care course/experience. Current BLS (CPR) registration. Supportive Pathways/Supportive Dementia training. Experience with activating Code White.
