Your Opportunity:

The Seniors Day Program (SDP), encompassing the Geriatric Community Rehabilitation, Bridges and Adult Day Programs, is the premier outpatient seniors program in Southern Alberta. The SDP program serves our seniors in the community by providing maintenance and rehabilitative care through social, cognitive and physical engaging activities in the hope of maintaining and/or improving independence. The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a member of the multi-disciplinary team that provides (ADL, social, cognitive, physical) supports to clients attending SDP as directed through their care plan. It is expected that the individual will be able to effectively work with other disciplines, departments, clients/families, the public, and stakeholder groups. PLEASE NOTE: This posting is scheduled to close at 23:59 of the posting end date but may be filled earlier under LOU #20 if a regular employee of the same classification who holds a regular position within this unit expresses their interest in this vacancy by 23:59 on the 5th calendar day following the posting date. Description:

Description: The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides basic nursing care to patients/residents as directed, assists with activities of daily living, and performs other activities necessary to meet the personal needs of patients/residents. The HCA maintains and promotes patient/resident safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and independence, and performs duties to maintain an aesthetic environment. The HCA is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Active status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed: 1) a continuing care or medicine unit placement, and 2) either Year 1 of a practical nursing program; or Year 2 of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program, and 3) knowledge and experience with medication assistance; will be considered. Candidates who are In Progress on the Directory may be considered. Candidates will be required to provide proof of Active enrolment on the Directory. Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending and lifting. Must be able to understand written and verbal directions in English.

Additional Required Qualifications:

High-level knowledge of geriatric care within the context of outpatient programming; Previous working experience in a geriatric outpatient program is essential; High-level knowledge of activities specific to seniors with/without dementia; Ability to adapt activities throughout the day in view of dynamic environment; Previous working experience facilitating care-planned activities is essential; Dementia Expressions or other similar Dementia training program within last 2 years is essential; Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training program within the last 2 years is essential; Excellent spoken and written communication skills; Ability to diplomatically address patient/family concerns; Is required to spend considerable time standing, walking and in close supportive contact with clients; Is required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements, change position (assume awkward positions), transfer and/or lift adults and transport equipment; Knowledge of regional resources and system specific to seniors care; Proficiency with computer applications including and not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience collecting and reporting on program statistics; Experience working with external partners for provision of contracted services; Prior experience with Connect Care in an outpatient environment.
