As a Cook I—equivalent to a Demi Chef de Partie—you’ll prepare fresh, from-scratch meals in a dynamic, multi-service facility. Key Responsibilities: Prepare diverse meals including soups, salads, sandwiches, and full entrees with meat, fish, grains, and vegetables. Cook international dishes inspired by Asian, European, and Latin American cuisines. Create breakfast items like pancakes, egg dishes, muffins, and scones from scratch. Clean and prepare large cuts of meat and fish for roasting, grilling, and searing. Craft vegan and vegetarian meals with care and innovation. Learn and apply therapeutic hospital diets. Support cafeteria service and Meals on Wheels. Assist with food orders, cleaning, and customer service. What You Bring: Proven experience in a professional kitchen; Red Seal or equivalent preferred. Strong knowledge of scratch cooking and global cuisine. Ability to work independently and follow procedures. Willingness to learn specialized dietary needs. Description: The Cook I is responsible for a variety of cooking duties including preparation, assembly and serving of menu items in accordance with standardized recipes and established procedures and standards. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE General Support Services Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: A Journeyman certificate is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Grade 12 or equivalent. Minimum two [2] years of recent institutional food service experience, large quantity cooking experience, required. Will consider a recognized equivalent or demonstrated recent and related experience. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Basic knowledge of regular and special diets, required. Basic computer skills. Food Safe Certification. Clear Criminal Records Check.
Preferred Qualifications:Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow directions and guidelines. High standards for cleanliness and sanitation. High levels of honesty and integrity. Ability to do mathematical calculations. WHMIS training preferred.
