Your Opportunity:

Are you an experienced cook looking for a different culinary opportunity? The Cook I position is equivalent to a Demi Chef de Partie position in hotel restaurant kitchens. This part-time position is four days per week: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 0600 -1415 (paid 7.75 hours) and Thursdays and Fridays 1015-1800 (paid 7.25 hours). There is opportunity to pick up additional shifts when you are available. The Cook I must be able to make soups, stews, chilis, sandwiches, and salads etc., from scratch. You are comfortable cleaning larger cuts of meats in preparation for roasting, grilling, and searing, as well as cooking fish and vegan/vegetarian meals. The Cook I prepares full meals including, meat, fish, potato, rice and grain dishes with vegetables and sauces. You know how to prepare breakfast from scratch including muffins, scones, and sweet loaves. The Cook I is competent in cooking a variety of international foods as influenced by Asia, Europe, and Latin America, etc. You are willing to learn hospital therapeutic diets. The Banff Mineral Springs Hospital patient food services department makes a difference every day in the lives of over 40 patients and long-term care residents by preparing and serving high quality from scratch meals with excellent customer service in this multi-service facility. The Cook I is also responsible for the preparation of menu items, for cafeteria service, and Meals on Wheels. Work is to be completed in a safe manner with superior quality and customer service. The Cook I also assists in cash handling duties, cleaning duties and submitting food orders. You will work under minimal supervision, following all applicable policies and standard operating procedures. The Cook I is responsible for the provision of care in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Covenant Health and the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: A Journeyman certificate is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent. Minimum two [2] years of recent institutional food service experience, large quantity cooking experience, required. Will consider a recognized equivalent or demonstrated recent and related experience. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Basic knowledge of regular and special diet. Basic computer skills, required. Food Safe Certification. Clear Criminal Records Check. Please note: Classifications Under Review.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow directions and guidelines. High standards for cleanliness and sanitation. High levels of honesty and integrity. Ability to do mathematical calculations. WHMIS training preferred.
