This is your opportunity to join the dynamic health care team at Villa Caritas, an acute care geriatric psychiatry facility that specializes in caring for seniors with complex mental health issues. In this permanent full-time position, you will be providing spiritual care to patients, their supporting families and Covenant Health staff. As part of the Spiritual Care team, you will participate in overnight on-call rotation with the team of chaplains at the Misericordia Community Hospital (MCH). Your professional practice of being highly relational will continue to support the compassionate culture in Covenant Health. As an integral part of Covenant Health's Geriatric Psychiatry Program, you will support collaboration between the patient, their support system and the care team. You will report to the Manager, Spiritual Care Acute (Urban and Rural).

Description:

As a professional, integrated member on the healthcare team, the Chaplain, accountable to the Manager of Spiritual Care, seeks to improve the quality of life for patients, families, and staff, experiencing spiritual, moral or existential distress related to changes in health, ability, and life circumstances. Utilizing a holistic, relational approach, the Chaplain assesses the nature and extent of the client's concerns, develops a plan of care, and provides therapeutic interventions to promote and engage the client in their healing process, focusing on the wellness needs and goals of the client. Chaplains use interventions informed by spirituality, religion and the social sciences as well as counselling psychotherapeutic theories and an awareness of cultural traditions. Chaplains honour and promote diversity and inclusion, while modeling respect and sensitivity. Chaplains initiate and engage in consultations and referrals with other professional colleagues and provide spiritual leadership across Covenant Health sites. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Commencement of a Master's degree in Theology, Spirituality, Religion and/or related field of studies from an accredited college or university. Advanced Level of SPE (CASC/ACSS) required. Membership with the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS).


Additional Required Qualifications:

Suitable knowledge required for working within a geriatric or acute care setting, as well as familiarity with primary patient populations: psychiatry, geriatrics, palliative, intensive care/critical care, surgery, medicine, emergency and women’s health. Demonstrated understanding and ability to work in a multifaith, multicultural and multidisciplinary setting. Commitment to personal and professional integration, as well as spiritual, psychological and emotional integration. Ability to engage in spiritual, philosophical and/or theological reflection. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Computer skills in Outlook, Teams, Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word). Ability to learn computer software such as Connect Care. Ability to listen and be a grounded and emotionally regulated presence. Ability to be non-judgmental, maintain confidence, and affirm individual worth. Ability to cope with a high degree of psychological, emotional and spiritual stress.


Preferred Qualifications:

CASC/ACSS Certification as Spiritual Care Practitioner preferred. Three years of experience providing spiritual care in a healthcare setting.
