Your Opportunity:
As a member of Women's health program, the Assistant head nurse report to the unit manager of the Postpartum unit. This is an informal leadership role responsible for collaborating, supporting and coordinating the care of Postpartum mums and newborns.

Description: The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties. The AHN promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. The AHN fosters team effectiveness, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicating effectively and seeking to resolve staff issues. The AHN develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Alberta (CRPNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 2 years of recent maternal-newborn experience in an acute care setting is required. Demonstrates supervisory competency and charge experience is required. Should have current NRP and FHS certification. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Should be able to mentor and guide staff in stressful and emergency situations. Able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:Must have a good understanding of Baby friendly Initiative. Must be self-motivated, self-directed and able to implement resolutions. Must have involved with some process improvement or working groups.
